Transform your basement into a highly functional living space….

Today’s homeowners are looking to expand the usable space in their home. Basements have become an economical alternative to home additions but must incorporate flooring materials that meet the challenge of below-ground environments.

Basement Problems

There are two major concerns unique to basements that require homeowners to carefully choose how they will finish their basement space.

Mold & Mildew

Basements typically are damp, humid, and dusty environments. The floor makes up over 40% of the surface space that generates moisture in a basement. Traditional flooring materials such as carpet, vinyl, or laminates can harbor mold, mildew and other allergens that pose serious health risks to home occupants.

Basement Flooring

Occasional flooding can generate high mold and mildew counts and often requires complete removal of flooring with little or no reimbursement from insurance companies.

A Healthy Solution

Garage Store’s decorative concrete coatings provide homeowners with a healthy alternative to traditional flooring materials.

The end result is an attractive solution to basement flooring problems that significantly reduces humidity, mold and mildew, while transforming your basement into highly functional living space.

Why should I have your system professionally installed when I can purchase a do-it-yourself (DIY) product from a major home improvement retailer?

Each year millions of dollars are spent on coating systems that fail due to inadequate surface preparation or improper installation. The most substantial cost of a coating is not the product itself, but the cost associated with the proper surface preparation and application of the coating system. Many DIY coatings last about 1-2 years before peeling and flaking occurs. Professionally applied system from Garage Store will last a lifetime when properly maintained.

How long does it take to install a decorative concrete coating and when can I start using it again?

The installation time varies depending on system selection; most systems take 1-2 days. All systems will accept light foot traffic in 24 hours and vehicle traffic in 2-3 days.

What is the cost of installing a Garage Store flooring system?

Garage Store’s decorative concrete coatings are generally installed for approximately $4.00 - $6.00 per square foot. Costs may vary based on the condition of the concrete, size of the floor, and the top coat selected.

How long will my floor last?

A Garage Store flooring system that is properly installed and maintained will last 15+ years.

What do you do with the cracks found in most concrete floors?

All open cracks and heavily spalled (pitted) areas can be patched. Expansion and or saw cut joints can be filled with a flexible material (allowing for expansion and contraction of concrete).

How do chemicals such as road salt or motor oil affect the coating?

Garage Store coatings are highly chemical-resistant to road-salt, gasoline, motor oil, and many other chemicals.

Why do you grind or shot blast the concrete versus acid etching or deep cleaning the concrete surface?

A floor coating’s performance depends on adequate surface preparation. Polymer floor coatings ideally bond to concrete with a rough, sandpaper finish; this is best done using shot blasting, diamond grinding, or power sanding. Industry standards do not endorse acid etching as a proper method for surface preparation.
